Q. What is telemedicine?
A. Telemedicine is simply the practice of medicine from a remote location via telephone, email or online video chat using a computer or personal electronic device. The practice of telemedicine began more than 40 years ago to facilitate collaboration between doctors and hospitals. Today, telemedicine provides patients with unprecedented access to doctors and has become widely accepted throughout the healthcare industry.
Q. What illnesses or conditions can be treated by a telehealth physician?
A. Telemedicine is ideal for most non-emergency, common illnesses such as respiratory infections, poison ivy, poison oak, insect bites, stomach pain, indigestion, urinary tract infections, pink-eye, earaches, allergies and more. In fact, more than 70% of illnesses that prompt visits to the ER, urgent care clinics and doctors’ offices can be handled safely on the phone or online video chat, according to the Wellness Council of America.
Q. Why is your telemedicine service better than others out there?

Q. Do you charge extra for each telehealth consultation?
A. No. Unlimited telehealth consultations via HealthiestYou’s MDLive portal are included in your low monthly membership fee at no additional charge at all.
Q. How many members are included in the family telehealth plan?
A. Whether you’re a single parent, married or living with a domestic partner, HealthiestYou family plans include you, your spouse/partner and up to 9 dependent children. That’s a total of 10 if you are a single parent with up to 9 children, or 11 including two parents and up to 9 children.
Q. Are all telehealth consultations performed by licensed doctors?
A. Yes. All telehealth consultations are conducted by U.S. Board Certified physicians that are licensed in the state in which you live or use the service.
Q. I travel a lot for work. Can I use the service when I’m out of state?
A. Yes. When you log into your account and request an appointment, you will need to enter the location where you are currently staying so that you can arrange to visit with a physician licensed in that state.
Q. Are all telemedicine visits on the phone?
A. No, you may request a video chat with a doctor that makes that option available.
Q. Is this service available in every state?
A. There are currently more than 2,300 Board-certified doctors active in Healthiest You’s physician network. Many of these doctors are licensed in multiple states.
Q. I have a tax-deferred Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) that I use for medical expenses. Does my monthly subscription fee qualify to be paid from this account?
A. Yes, your Healthiest You monthly fee qualifies for payment from your HSA or FSA.
Q. I have insurance through my employer but my deductible is high. How does your telehealth plan help me save money?
A. Using your Healthiest You service will save you the cost of visiting a doctor’s office, urgent care or E.R. As a subscriber, you have unlimited, 24/7 access to physicians included in your low monthly fee. You will never have to pay any additional fee or co-pay to speak with a doctor. Additionally, regardless of whether your insurance covers prescriptions, you may use our pharmacy discount card to save up to 85% on prescriptions. The HealthiestYou smart phone app will even help you to find the best price on medicine at pharmacies near you, and compare prices on medical procedures, even check to make sure you stay in-network.
Q. How do I know there are doctors available in every state?
A. There are on average 2,300 doctors who are active in the network, which is one of the largest in the country. Many of these doctors are licensed to practice medicine in multiple states.
Q. Can I choose my own telehealth physician?
Yes. Simply log into your account via the telehealth portal and select “Find a Provider” by entering your name, location and type of provider you are seeking. This will generate a list of physicians currently available for consultations. You will have the option to learn more about each doctor, read patient reviews and view the doctors’ credentials before making your selection. The provider search feature is also available in the HealthiestYou mobile app.
Q. How long does it take to get a consultation?
A. Once you request a consultation with a physician in your state and enter preliminary information about your condition, the average wait for a call from a doctor is 13 minutes. Each case varies and depends upon the availability of the physician you select.
Q. What if it is an emergency such as an acute allergy, critical injury, heart attack or accidental poisoning?
A. You should call 9-1-1 and get help immediately. In case of accidental poisoning, call 9-1-1 and, for additional information, call the National Poison Control Hotline at (800) 222-1222. These services are available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Q. Aside from emergencies, are there any services with which the telemedicine doctors will not help?
A. Illnesses that require hospitalization, physical injuries that need x-rays or MRIs to accurately assess, and other acute illnesses that can only be diagnosed in the presence of a doctor or surgeon can’t be addressed via telemedicine. If you have a condition that requires additional care, your telehealth physician will let you know.
Q. Can HealthiestYou doctors prescribe medicine or refill my prescriptions?
A. Yes. HealthiestYou doctors can prescribe a wide range of drugs to treat the most common illnesses such as sore throat, respiratory infections, allergies, skin conditions, indigestion, urinary tract infections, sports injuries, and more. However, they can not prescribe narcotics or any medications that have been designated as U.S. Controlled Substances as Schedule I, II, III or IV drug. Q. What happens if the doctor needs laboratory tests such as blood work?
A. The doctor will let you know, then you may use the Healthiest You smartphone app to locate a nearby laboratory. The results can be sent directly to your doctor or uploaded to your personal medical record storage (included in your membership) where you can make it accessible to your telehealth provider during a follow-up consultation.
Q. Will the medical information I share with my doctor remain confidential?
A. Absolutely yes! Physician providers are all bound by the same doctor-patient confidentiality rules as any other doctors you visit in person. The service is provided in compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations governing healthcare. Healthtera treats its members’ sign-up, billing and contact information in the same way, strictly confidential. You are the only person allowed to determine who can access any medical information stored in your free online medical records account. You may choose to allow your doctor to securely and safely view your records or upload his or her notes, medical diagnostics and other information related to your care.
Q. I own a small business and would like to offer health benefits to my employees. Do Healthtera’s telehealth benefits comply with the Affordable Care Act rules regarding employee health benefits?
A. Healthiest You benefit plans for business are considered supplemental and can help to reduce the overall cost of healthcare benefits. However, this is not insurance and, therefore, is not sufficient to meet ACA guidelines for employers to provide health insurance to their employees. Healthiest You telemedicine plans do qualify as “Wellness Benefits” and, as such, are 100% tax-deductible. Whether you are required to carry insurance for your employees or not, Healthiest You plans for business may significantly reduce the cost of insurance because of its high-utilization. If you have part-time employees, a Healthiest You plan is a great way way to help them access affordable care.

Q. What information is required to become a telehealth member?
A. Your name, date of birth, email address and zip code, and if you are signing up for a family plan, you will need to provide the name, date of birth of each dependent. You will be prompted to create a username and password, security question, after which you will receive an email confirmation. Follow the instructions to verify your email and you’re in! It is a good idea to complete a general health questionnaire, but this is optional.
